The Pain of Sunnydale
Am I the Only One ~ Both Angel and Cordelia came from Sunnydale scarred. They were considered part of the "Scooby Gang", but still they were outsiders. Both had their share of pain and loss. Cordelia lost everything she had in Sunnydale, including Xander to betrayal. Angel's forbidden love with Buffy ended in inevitable heartbreak. And now, they were both alone.

There is no good reason
I should have to be so alone
I'm smothered by this emptiness
Lord, I wish I was made of stone
Like a fool I lent my soul to love
And it paid me back in change
God help me, am I the only one
Who's ever felt this way?

A heart that's worn and weathered
Would know better than to fight
But I wore mine like a weapon
Played out love like a crime
And it wrung me out and strung me out
And it hung years on my face
God help me, am I the only
Who's ever felt this way?

Now my sense of humor needs a break
I see a shadow in the mirror
And she's laughin' through her tears
One more smile's all I can fake

There is a wound inside me
And it's bleeding like a flood
There are times when I see a light ahead
Hope is not enough
As another night surrounds me
And it pounds me like a wave
God help me, am I the only one
Who's ever felt this way?

Finding Each Other
Destiny ~ Is perhaps what has brought them together. They both resolved to the fact that the Sunnydale phase of their life was over. They were two very different people, but the same in many ways. Two lonely souls who have taken their grief and moved on to L.A., the city of tomorrow, in search of a new life -- and found each other -- along with an entire city full of lost souls to save.

Somewhere there waiteth in this world of ours
For one lone soul another lonely soul
Each choosing each through all the weary hours
And meeting strangely at one sudden goal.
Then blend they, like green leaves with golden flowers,
Into one beautiful and perfect whole;
And life's long night is ended, and the way
Lies open onward to eternal day.

Close Friends
I'll Be There For You ~ Angel and Cordelia's friendship grew closer through working together as warrior and seer, caring for each other, and supporting one another through the hard times -- demons, apocalypses, pregnancies... They were no longer lonely souls because they had each other. They had someone who was there to say, "You're not alone."

So no one told you life was gonna be this way
Your job's a joke, you're broke, your love life's DOA
It's like you're always stuck in second gear,
When it hasn't been your day, your week, your month,
or even your year, but...

I'll be there for you...
When the rain starts to pour
I'll be there for you...
Like I've been there before
I'll be there for you...
'Cause you're there for me too.

You're still in bed at ten, though work begins at eight,
You burned your breakfast, so far things are going great,
Your mother warned you there'd be days like these,
But she didn't tell you
when the world was brought down to your knees

No one could ever know me. No one could ever see me.
Seems your the only one who knows what it's like to be me
Someone to face the day with.
Make it through all the mess with.
Someone I'll always laugh with.
Even at my worst, I'm best with....
you - yeah

It's like you're always stuck in second gear,
When it hasn't been your day, your week, your month,
or even your year, but...

I Won't Walk Away ~ He'll always catch her when she falls. She'll always make him smile when he's down. They've changed because of each other. Angel's no longer the broody guy that he was and Cordy's no longer the shallow girl that she was. Angel and Cordelia's relationship have come to the point where they need each other. They're friendship has become even deeper. They love each other as friends first and foremost, and now as something more... After all, the best friends make the best lovers.

A lonely street lamp
I'm out on the street walking home
A small pale blur
Leaving trails like a snail I move so slow
Time can bruise
Violent indigo
Rush home to your arms
You soothe my weary soul

Wrong or right
Be mine tonight
Harsh world be damned we'll make a stand
Love can bind
But mine is blind
Others stray
But I won't
Walk away
Walk away

The clubs are full
Of couples resisting being one
They wear their youth
Like badges that tarnish all too soon
But we'll be a team
Our two will be one
Love will be our fortress
When all else comes undone

Sometimes the world don't make sense
Small children filled with violence
Let our light shine through the night
